Care More Spotlight: Delivering Compassion and Care

We have all started new jobs at one time or another. Having that feeling of excitement to be starting a new adventure, meeting new people, and wanting everything to work out for the best. Kimberly Patton has been a registered nurse for fifteen years, but this year decided to take her career down a new path when she started travel nursing with Supplemental Health Care.

While the location may be new, and new co-workers surround her, she knew nothing had changed about how she cared for her patients. As a nurse, Kim has helped deliver countless babies and shared in the joy with families who were welcoming little ones into the world.

Even though she is on her very first travel assignment, Kim has received flowers and fruit baskets, handwritten cards, and letters from ecstatic parents who want to thank her for helping deliver their babies. As a travel nurse, Kim might feel that she is just doing her job, but the reaction from the families she has impacted tells us that she has gone above and beyond. Further proof of her lasting impact came in the form of a Daisy Award nomination.

“I really enjoy helping my patients and significant others become a family,” she explains. “There is no greater honor than being there for them as they welcome their baby into the world. It is a privilege that I do not take for granted.”

Since 1991, the DAISY Foundation has provided a means for patients and families to recognize nurses who provide above-and-beyond compassionate care during their time of need. The family that nominated Kimberly said this about the care she provided.

Miss Patton could not have been more compassionate, friendly, and more importantly, helpful and professional. She was with us for the entire labor and made every effort to assist and comfort us for the entire process. We couldn’t give her more praise!”

Like so many nurses, Kim chose her career path because she witnessed a nurse’s incredible care in her life. She shared: “I chose nursing because when a friend was passing, it was the nurses who were truly there for her and her family. It is a profession that is very much needed and honorable.”

In a very short time, Kim has developed a connection to the facility where she is working on her first travel nursing assignment. She has blended right in with the medical team and the nursing staff. She also feels connected to the community they are serving and considers it a privilege to care for them.

“I truly believe that we should care for our patients and fellow team members as if they were family,” she says. “Every day that I go to work, I am aware that I am there for the most important, yet vulnerable time in their life! I feel honored to be recognized for the service I provide.”

Kim also credits her recruiter at Supplemental Health Care, Sydney, for providing her with the support she needs to be successful on her travel nursing assignment.
