Why You Should Attend TravCon 2018

Take it from an experienced travel RN, there are plenty of reasons to attend TravCon this year.

The Travelers Conference, also known as TravCon, is the only conference of its kind: “for, about and by healthcare travelers,” according to their official website. Meeting in Las Vegas, NV on September 9-11, 2018, the conference includes educational sessions as well as networking opportunities and social events. The conference is open to nursing and therapy disciplines and has expanded to include more Allied healthcare professionals this year. Whether you’re a new or seasoned traveler, TravCon has something for everyone.

Take it from an experienced travel RN, there are plenty of reasons to attend TravCon this year. Mary Jo Alessio started traveling with Supplemental Health Care as a Psych RN years ago and has picked up traveling again earlier this year. When she was unable to find a social network that specifically catered to her specialty in Psych and Behavioral Health, she created her own! She now runs a Facebook group, Employment Psychiatric Travel Nurse, that has over 4000 members. This will be her first time at TravCon and she shared with us what she’s most looking forward to.

TravCon understands “the particular nuances of travelers,” Mary Jo said. All the content is geared towards the unique circumstances travelers face such as tax homes, multi-state taxes, and per diem reimbursements. She’s excited to hear from Joseph Smith, a RRT/EA and founder of TravelTax, for his expertise as both a traveler and tax advisor.

Mary Jo is most enthusiastic to meet Laura Latimer, a travel Occupational Therapist and Founder of Nomadicare. “She’s great on social,” Mary Jo said. Laura shares lots of video and photo updates of her travels on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. She will be speaking at TravCon about working with staffing agencies throughout the interview and negotiating process.

Travelers also need to consider their housing options while traveling for work. “I have two dogs – Shih Tzus,” said Mary Jo. Being able to bring her dogs with her while traveling is very important and “it will be nice to wake up in my own bed,” she says. Dan Sees, the RV Expert, will be presenting on RV Housing for Healthcare Travelers. This offers a great housing alternative for those traveling with their furry family members!

You can learn more about all the presentations, speakers and events in the TravCon 2018 schedule. Be sure to stop by and meet Mary Jo and the Supplemental Health Care team at booth #331. Check out our Facebook event for more details.
